This magazine also applies to the first full day in Rome. Staying at the Hotel Columbus, which is no more than a 200 meters from the entrance to St. Peter's Basilica. I had a decent view of the dome and the basilica of San Castile Angeles from the windows or in the vicinity of my room. I was on the 5th Floor of the hotel. The Castile San Angeles is no more than a 1 / 4 mile from the hotel.

The hotel Columbs was an impressive palace of the 15th Century. The Columbus was once home to the Cardinal, Pope Julius II, the man, Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel painting was tortured. It looks much as it must have centuries ago: a serious time-colored facade and heavy wooden doors from the street to the colonnades and arcades of the courtyard.



The major tour operators for this first day was the grave of St. Peter in the cemetery under the Basilica. Our tour guide was Daniella (She is married to a member of the Swiss Guard of the Pope.) She is a trained archaeologist and iconologist and provided a fantastic tour with excellent detail. She had no fear of his speech, that Catholic theology challenged.
